Trentham Easter Art & Craft Show 2017

The 2017 show was a great success. 149 entrants exhibited a total of 364 art/craftworks and several thousand people visited the show.

Trentham’s long-serving Dr Gweneth Wisewould, who supported the local community as its tireless doctor from 1938 to the day of her death aged 87 in 1972, was recognised with the new Gweneth Wisewould Portrait Prize. 57 portraits were entered in this category.

The portrait prize was judged by Rose Wilsonand Daniel Butterworth. Wilson has featured prominently in major national portrait prizes, including the Archibald, Doug Moran and Black Swan, and Butterworth was a finalist in the 2017 prestigious Archibald Prize for portraiture with his striking painting of Trentham chef Annie Smithers.

Prizes for the balance of the show were judged by local artists Catherine Abel, also an Archibald finalist, and Helen Cottle, winner of a long list of accolades, including the 2016 Trentham best in show award.
